Twitter: new media vs. news media

The convergence of breaking news and social media channels can’t be ignored. Twitter won’t allow it. Citizen journalism is an edgy concept for many trained old-school news reporters like myself. Truth be told, the more often we experience crises that demand a critical and timely flow of information, the clearer it gets that Twitter is indeed a news channel. Consider the recent flooding in Wisconsin. Traditional reporters got the story, long after the real-time tweets and mobile apps commandeered it.
